My name is Brett Greenland. I build acoustic guitars and mandolin family instruments in Townsville, North Queensland under the moniker of Pappy Green. I am able to custom build an instrument for you usually at a price that is lower than an entry level store purchased name brand instrument. I guarantee they sound better too.
If you are in the market for a guitar and would like to be an informed customer I can offer you general advice free of charge on what to look for and what to ask the sales person. You don’t have to buy one of my instruments. I just love talking about instruments so don’t hesitate to call.

my instruments are probably a little too expensive for a beginner who may not continue on playing. Having said that an 11 year old would probably need a 3/4 size instrument which I am happy to build for you. Alternatively (and cheaper) you may pick up a little instrument from gumtree or at cash converters. You can get small 3/4 steel string but they are classified as travel guitars. Most music shops retail one or two. I would strongly recommend you take him along to try it out and ensure he is not stretching too far when playing and that he can adequately reach all strings with his 11 year old hands. An instrument that is too big will usually make it so difficult to play that kids give up. Even though I presented Brett with an electric and his expertise is with acoustics, he’s done an absolutely amazing job fixing my favourite guitar and I will absolutely come back if I have any other problems with my guitars. your best bet would be to contact Mr Taffy Evans from Charters Towers (you can find his number in a google search) as he is the Maton repairer in this region and would have better advice than I could give.

Thanks Brett for the repair on my husband’s guitar! He’s pretty happy he can play again after the camper pole snapped his nut!
